HIs Promise

God's Promise01

At this time of year, we as a people begin to reflect on our life and year that is coming to an end.  We have goals set that were made or missed.  In our reflecting, we forecast the year to come, again setting goals.  Is there a spiritual aspect of this? Why yes, there is!

We resolute to spend more time with God.  We study His Word learning of the promises previously spoken over our lineage.  We focus on the promises He has made specifically to us.  There are times when these promises appear that they are not coming to pass.  This illusion can be damaging to our psyche and spirit.  But here is a promise that we hold tight to.  Luke 1:37 NIV says, “For no Word from God will ever fail.”

Oft, we as humans think that because the goal was not met in our timing, that we’ve failed.  This is actually so far from the truth.  Our timing is just our timing.  God’s timing, however, is perfect.  So for those, (myself included) who feel as if they have missed the mark, keep working.  If God has not you to stop, or that it’s over, there is no need to give up.  Continue to reflect on His promise to you.  Continue working towards the destiny that has been written for you.  I’ll leave you with one last promise that I personally cherish.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”  His promise will come to pass. But we must continue to do our part and fulfill our promises to HIm.

Love you, be blessed!

God Is Watching Over You!

God Is Watching Over Us02

We as humans hold an abundance of thoughts in our mind.  We tend to worry about the days ahead and past, which oft results in the loss of sleep.  Thing that we do called, “Worry”, has been proven to not be effective.  It ages us.  It strips of life’s joys.  It kills us!  Worrying is not something that God ever intended for us to do.

Psalms 121

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?  My help comes from the lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble;the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The lord himself watches over you! The lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day,nor the moon at night.  The lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,both now and forever.
The verse that caught my attention is verse five.  It says, “The Lord Himself watches over you!  The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.”  Isn’t it amazing that God is that involved with and connected to us!  We can cast whatever care that we have on Him, and let it go.  He sees us where we are, and he covers us.  When you feel yourself getting anxious about anything, remember, God sees and God covers, then let it go.  Stress is not an option!
Love you, be blessed!

Examples – What Will You Display?

Monday is rehearsal night.  As I sit for my name to be called, my son awaits right beside me.  When my time is upon us, my son and I stand up.  He reaches over to grab my sticks, then begins to walk beside me, stride for stride.  Approaching the platform he speeds up a little to get in front of me so that he can enter the cage first.  Maneuvering becomes a chest match, because he thinks that he is supposed to sit on the throne.  As I lovingly move him to the side, I take my seat.  He passes me my drumsticks and I hand him a pair of his own.  I place a few hits on the Hi-Hat then stop so that he can follow suit.  His hits and rhythms don’t sound like mine (he’s only 2), but when he is done I say, “My man” as I reach for a high five.  he hits my hand and smiles the greatest smile one could ever see.

From this I am reminded of a scripture.  Proverbs 22:6 NKJV says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he i sold he will not depart from it.”  Now I understand this passage has nothing to do with the drums or any other instrument.  But this repeated experience with my little man makes me aware that his eyes are ever present on me.  He will pick up both the good and the bad that I do.  With this knowledge, I have to be cautious in all of my doing.

Somewhere on Social Media, I read these questions, “Would you want your son to be the man that you are today?  Would you want your daughter to date or marry a man like you are today?”  The answer to both of these questions are no.  In writing, especially the type of writing that I do, I should have or appear to have it all together.  However, the strength of my writing has always be honesty.  And honestly speaking, I don’t have it all together.  So what is the remedy?

I begin to correct the things that need to be changed.  I model what a godly man is.  They need to see me study the Word of God.  They need to see me pray.  I need to teach them how to study, pray, and be a person after God’s heart.  In correcting my wrongs, I explain to them why whatever happened, happened.  I explain to my daughter and the cost of bad choice in a way that they can relate to.  Then I show them better.

Being an example is an awesome, sometimes overwhelming responsibility.  We don’t have to choose it.  We don’t have to want it.  We don’t even have to acknowledge it.  But the reality is and will always be, that we are.  Someone is always watching even if you don’t notice.  So the question is, what will we display?

Love you, be blessed!

Midnight Praise

It’s not quite midnight, but it’s close enough. I find myself laying in the bed; next to my beautiful wife, as she slumbers. I too should perhaps be sleeping because of the long day I have ahead of me. But instead, I find myself thinking about the goodness of God. As I reflect on my past, He begins to show me visions of my future, and it is beautiful!

I am grateful for all that I’ve been through. My failures have taught me a lot. My imperfections allow me to be appreciative, because God does not use perfect people!

There is so much that I want to say, but I’ll leave you with this thought. I am grateful that God uses imperfect people such as myself (and you) perfectly!

Love you, be blessed!

Keep Pressing!

Man At Work

Acts of the Apostles 20:24 NLT

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

So many people, (myself included) search for their life’s meaning and purpose.  We wonder, do I matter, am I making a difference, or if I stop would anybody even notice?  These have been my thoughts in several areas in life.  As I am sure that you are aware, these thoughts can be beyond discouraging.  For some, it can even become life threatening.  So what do we do, when we are overcome by thoughts of this manner?  What do we do, when we don’t see the fruits of our labor?  What do we do, when all things outside of us says stop, but the passion within us dictates the opposite?

We continue!  In our journey, there will be times where it is far more bitter than sweet, however we still focus on the end goal.  We continue to press towards the goal (Philippians 3:14).  When we look at the life of Jesus, His path was not covered with rose pedals, but he continued.  In the end He won the victory for us all.  Now, you may say, “I can’t compare to Jesus”.  I can respect that thought, so let give one more example that we may be able to relate to better.

Moses had many struggles in his lifetime, but he had a mission given by God.  Despite all the trials that he encountered, despite the rejection that he received, despite the feeling of loneliness that could have overwhelmed him, he pressed on.  Some might argue, “Was it really worth it for him, he didn’t even get to enter the Promise Land?”  The answer is yes it was worth it.  Though he didn’t get to enter, he was able to see it.  He also understood that the mission that God had for him, was much bigger than him.  It was a blessing for his children, family, friends, and fellow journeyers past, present and future.

God has given each of us an incredible task.  Whether we get to enjoy it in our lifetime or it is enjoyed by those after us, keep pressing.  If it seems like you efforts make no impressions, keep pressing.  Philippians 3:14 NKJV I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Keep pressing! Keep Pressing!  KEEP PRESSING!  Your labor will not be in vain!

Love you, be blessed!

Spread Love

As Take 6’s “Spread Love” sounds off in my head, I am reminded of two things. First, the scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT says, “Three things will last forever –faith, hope, and love — and the greatest of these is love. With the condition that our world is in today, an extra dose of love and oneness is desperately needed.

Secondly, The Emotions sing a song that begin with these words: “Tis the season, to be jolly, but how can I be when I have nobody…What do the lonely do, at Christmas?” There are so many people who hurt beyond measure during the holiday season. We as followers of Christ must look through they eyes of God to recognize the hurting and do everything within our power to console them. We have to take it upon ourselves to reach out and spread love.

Now with the understanding that people do not only have feelings of loneliness during holiday seasons, let make a deliberate effort to Spread Love and show compassion to all people all year around. We are the hands and feet of God, let’s conduct ourselves in this manner!

Love you, be blessed!

Morning Reflections

Thought are plentiful
Pen is stilled
A plethora of emotions
No ink is spilled
Desires to express
Though words won’t leave the chest
Holding too much in
The definition of stress

But there is relief
God can be your sheet
Empty your heart
To fill the lines
As He grants the joy
Of easing your mind
Put Him to the test
Of releasing your stress
Acting on faith
You will be blessed

Give your burdens to the Lord, and HE will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalms 22 NLT,
